Much ado for a pair of shoes

A while back, Marina bought a new pair of high-heels – well, high-heel shoes without the high heels (aka pony shoes). From the shoes, a shoot was born.

Sadly though, the shoes, while they look awesome, are not particularly easy to stand in, let alone pose in, so that had to go. Thanks to the ever resourceful stylist Hannah St James, we had plenty of other shoes to shoot with. And of course thanks for the hair and make-up goes to Joan Moseley.

About a month ago I had the pleasure of shooting with Danni (aka Model 208 from Model Mayhem) who had made the 3 hour trek to Canberra to party away a friend’s birthday and squeeze in a few shoots as well.

Danni is just starting out in modelling and will certainly go far. She was a pleasure to work with and I’m sure we’ll be working together in the future.

Multicultural Feastival

The National Multicultural Festival (aka Beer and Meat on a Stick Festival, or Feastival) is an annual event in Canberra to celebrate Australia’s multicultural society. It’s a chance for people to experience the food, drink, music and performances that the cultures that are represented in Australia’s society.

Unfortunately for me I’m gluten-intolerant, so I did not do any sampling of the food , I still go along to see the performances and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Burning One

Last Saturday I had the immense pleasure of shooting with Joanne (aka Seraphiim) from Northern Sydney. While she doesn’t have six wings, Jo is an angel in front the camera. We spent 3 hours together and got far too many great shots to choose from.

We started out up a hill with great views all around, but we later learned it was popular with bush and dog walkers: we had a few too many distractions.

My favourite shot from the day. Jo saw this interesting tree and wanted to work with it.

Then afterwards we went to a planted coniferous forest, which during the late morning had light stippling through the trees. I would have loved to have photographed her for longer, but after 3 hours I was tired, hungry, the mosquitoes were giving us too much grief (mental note: pack Aeroguard) and Jo had a long drive ahead of her to go back home.

I couldn't resist using the light here – it was gorgeous, and Jo's skin took to sun light very well.

Canberra Strobists at The White Room

Thiery Nguyen from Nomad Photography and Rob van Heuzen from The White Room (and Performance Wedding Cars) hosted the first Canberra Strobists meetup.

It was a great chance for 15+ photographers and models to get together, shoot some pics, meet each other, and do some networking.

Up Mt Stromlo with a Ballerina

Marina and I took a trip up to Mt Stromlo to have some fun and take some photos. Despite the cold, Marina was a trooper and powered on for the 2 hours we shot for. It would have been nice if the sun made an appearance, but I think we made the best of the situation.
